Parts of a Sentence
Learn the essential building blocks that make an English sentence complete.
A complete sentence communicates a complete thought.
Most basic English sentences contain a subject and a predicate. The subject tells us who or what the sentence is about. The predicate tells us what the subject does or what the subject is like.
Example: The students are studying.
Subject: The students
Predicate: are studying
A sentence normally begins with a capital letter and ends with a period, question mark, or exclamation mark.
